To me the script of “The Dream, the Bubble and the Shadow” is real touching, Director Wilson Yip said it was upon him seeing the Statue of Liberty being made disappeared by a certain magician thirty years ago that had him considering, if such is to be turned into a movie, just what exactly should be made vanished to bring about some symbolic meanings? Later on, the big Buddha came to mind, and it ended up developing into a full blown story. One of the mechanisms of the so-called “magic”, is appearing and disappearing, much like the coming and going of both people and circumstances, even if you are faced with some rather awful matters there will always come a day when it wanes, and by the same token, happiness might also die out one day; all in all, the entire story of this film is about how to let go and let be.
